So I've had my new X for roughly a day now. So far, so good, and I'm really enjoying the phone overall. I'm coming from an iPhone 7 for reference.

Out of the box I really like the look, feel and weight of the unit. (64GB Silver). I proceeded to activate it, and do a full restore from my 7 onto it. Went perfectly smooth with zero issues. (Did the restore from iTunes).

My initial thoughts and impressions:

- Overall - the best built and looking iPhone since the original and 5 series
- Size - perfect. Seems no bigger than my 7 but having the extra screen size is very nice.
- Face ID - Works far better than I anticipated. So far I've used it indoors, outdoors bright sunlight, dark room, glasses, sunglasses etc. with zero issues. It's fast and frankly far better than Touch ID at this point.
- Speed - very good. No lag, delays on anything.
- Screen - very, very good. Gorgeous to say the least.
- Gestures. Took me maybe 20 minutes to get used to them and I'm already wondering how I ever even dealt with the home button let along thought I would miss it.
- Camera - very good. I'm coming from a standard sized 7 which I thought was OK. This appears to be much better overall. No, it won't replace my stand alone camera just yet, but I feel more confidence in using it for more things now. The portrait stuff is just cool and fun to play with at this point.
- Animoji - lol - cool, fun, but more a novelty that I'm sure I'll get bored with.
- Apple Pay with FaceID - Love it. Really. Double click, look at phone and place over reader. Much better implementation than the touch interface which I always had to screw with. This just seems to work without really thinking about it.

I guess that's it for now. Overall, I think this is a fantastic device and I can't wait to see what Apple does with it over time.

Glad you like it. I had the X for 2 weeks and to me although almost same size as my 7 navigating felt like using a Plus. Being a 1 thumb / 1 hand user I returned it and got an 8. Glad your happy!

Apple Pay + Touch ID is the simplest form in my opinion. Double click home button, that reads your fingerprint anyway and then pay. You’re double clicking with the X anyway, just on older phones you don’t need to look into the damn camera to do it.

Surprisingly I’m finding I don’t even notice looking at the camera when using Face ID. For a purchase I did today I just picked it up, double clicked the side button and placed it near the reader. Yes, the Face ID prompt came up but it was so fast I never really noticed.

Hey at least you gave it a fair shake. Different strokes for different folks. :)

Completely agree with you on Face ID though OP. It’s been phenomenal for me so far, I wouldn’t go back to Touch ID even if I had the option to. Face ID is just so much more reliable for me, it basically never fails anymore.
