a quick question about renewing at AT&T store

So I am not the owner of the primary line of my at&t account. However, I have access to the online account and have made my self an authorized user which claims to let me makes changes to the account at any retail store. Do you think this will be good enough so that I can upgrade from the original iphone to the new one and upgrade the data plan without problem?? has anyone upgraded before without being the primary account holder??
