It has bothered me, but I let it go, but now I'm curious (yes, indeed). I can copy a file (say, a HD movie) from my imac to a Drobo 5N (over gigabit - all cat 6) nearing 100MB/s. However, the same cannot be said for iTunes - 50MB/s is the best it can do - doing the copying itself: if you've got the box ticked that says "copy everything into iTunes library, or whatever" you'll know what I mean.
So, why is it that iTunes cannot take advantage of the same speed when i manually copy a file to the NAS? This issue is also true in other situations. I have a Drobo 5D too; iTunes is busying moving the media from the NAS to the thunderbolt drive (the 5D), but it cannot transfer faster than 50MB/s (and it's just one directing - a read operation from the NAS, over gigabit, to Thunderbolt).
What is going on?
