I hate how apple makes their cables with no difference to easily feel and see what side is up. if it is dark or you are doing something else trying to see the little logo to see what way the cable goes is a hassle at night you have to try both ways.
here is a simple fix the puffy paint is from walmart or any craft store costs .99 and in many colors. Just clean the plug and apply it. do a test piece as sometimes the paint does not flow well at first. leave it overnight and it is done. keep the paint towards the back so it dos not hit a case. I also use this on headphone mic buttons if they don't stand out enough.
