A spell check on ipages 09

Hello,

I'm completely new to all things apple.

At the moment I'm typing docs in English and in French. When I set the system preferences, i place English first, then French, since i type mostly in English.

Is it the case that ipages cannot detect automatically that you are using French, say after the first line is typed, as would normally happen when you type in Gmail?

Secondly, how can I just change the language by highlighting the text and then selecting the language I want the text checked against?

Its really really frustrating!
