A strange problem - External USB Drive (Windows)

Has anybody any idea why I can't see some folders on my external drive?

I can connect to, and copy from, the drive with no difficulty but cannot see any folders in, roughly, the first half of the alphabet!

For example - I can see the Music folder, but not DVD. However, if I rename (by using my PC) the DVD folder to xDVD I can use it with no difficulty.

There seems to be no sense to this.
