A VLC Player question?

[Faux Carnival]

Hi, due to Macbook Air's 16:10 screen ratio, I have black bars above and below in most videos I watch. I tried everything but haven't been able to find the regular "zoom" function in VLC. I want to preserve aspect ratio but zoom in the video.
