A way of changing the default naming system...?

I was wondering if there was a way to change the way OS X names a photo every time you take a snap shot of your desktop/whatever. Reason why is that I take a lot of snapshots and it gets very tiresome changing a photo because "an older item 'Picture 1' with extension ____ already exists" blah blah.

It would be very nice if there was a way to change this, but is it possible?
