A website was trying to use my browser as a blockchain currency miner???

Using Safari on my MBP with Adguard, I went to a website and received a message that it detected that the website was trying to use my browser as a blockchain currency miner, and that it could create significant CPU load. I clicked cancel though it took me to the page anyways. I have no idea what this means. Can something malicious have been downloaded to my MBP? What should I do?

It's becoming pretty common on certain parts of the internet. It's running in javascript. There's no danger apart from consuming your power/battery life, and once you leave/close the site it's gone.

They're basically using your computer's resources to try to make money while you're on their site. See: https://qz.com/154877/by-reading-this-page-you-are-mining-bitcoins/
