There are two kinds of "translation app" users. Casual users who need to understand the odd word or phrase, and office workers and professional translators who use these apps (all of which are based on Google Translate) like an accountant who reaches for a calculator when faced with long, laborious problems: they save time. I speak for the second group.
The translation results are never perfect, that's decades away and will rely on some kind of artificial intelligence to cope with every ambiguity and turn of phrase. This fortunately means we'll keep our jobs for the foreseeable future. But when we make a translation we often lean on these online/iPhone apps to save a bit of time. The next step is always to edit the automatically translated result, of course, reading it over and over till it's right. Therefore it would be very useful if the app came with a notepad area to paste and edit the text before transplanting it to whatever document we're working on. It would make the process a bit faster.
Even better would be an app where we could work on documents, make some use of an automatic translator and finish the task without having to exit the app at all.
