I have a Problem with the A1243 Alu Keyboard on my PowerMac G5. On startup the ALT key ist not working, so i can't use the boot menu.

Is this a known problem? Is there a solution to fix it?

Not that I’m aware of. I use this combination (DP2.0, mid ’04, with A1243) and have not run into any trouble with it. The A1243, which was initially filthy from prior use, was acquired used in a trade. Before using it for the first time, I let it soak and rest in a tub of 99 per cent isopropyl alcohol for a couple of days before letting it dry completely.

But no, I have not been aware of this as an issue. By chance, is the keyboard connected indirectly to the G5 (i.e., via a Cinema Display monitor or USB switch)?

This is pure guessing, but maybe the A1243's Alt/Option key isn't [quite?] sending the correct keycode to invoke the boot menu?

Has the Alt key been tested and confirmed working? Is the USB port on your G5 confirmed working? Those would be places to start to troubleshoot the issue.

Crazy crazy things

Alu Keyboard A1243 (1): Option key ist working inside MacOS and Void Linux on my PowerMac G5 but not on boot.
Same Problem on my MacPro 3,1

Alu Keyboard A1243 (2): Option key ist working inside MacOS and Void Linux on my PowerMac G5 and on boot. Same on my MacPro 3,1.

Now the funny thing. Alu Keyboard A1243 (1) is my old MacPro 3,1 keyboard an never had this Problem before.

Possible workaround (assuming that ONLY Opt key not work). Try to start in Target Mode (T), then drop to OF Console (CTRL-Z), then launch "multi-boot". Yes, it takes a bit more buttons to use, but it's better than nothing :D.
