A1407 Thunderbolt Display with iMac (2013)

I have a 2013 27" iMac and am interested in pairing it with a Thunderbolt Display (A1407) as a second monitor.

Does anyone have any experience in this setup? Is it as simple as connecting the two devices with a Thunderbolt cable and selecting the Thunderbolt Display in display settings as a second monitor, or are the other considerations or any restrictions?
