Aah! (screen display turned pale)

i just switched desktops and everything on my computer looks pale, even when i switch back to the other desktop. i tried to calibrate the screen on my iMac, and whenever i try to choose any of the display profiles, nothing happens. when i try to calibrate them, i get a message that says : "The Factory Profile For The Display Could Not Be Found."
