AAPL MacWorld runs Jan 5-9; the co’s main keynote is Tues Jan 6 12pmET.

AAPL MacWorld. Jan 5-9. http://www.macworldexpo.com/

AAPL keynote @ MacWorld. Jan 6. Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, will deliver the opening keynote for this year's Macworld Conference & Expo, and it will be Apple's last keynote at the show. The keynote address will be held at Moscone West on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 9:00 a.mPT (12pmET).

Bottom Line – chatter around this year’s MacWorld has been more subdued vs. past events, although the company is still expected to unveil new products. For the first time in years, Steve Jobs will not be giving the keynote address (although there is some chatter he may make a surprise appearance; Jobs this morning released a statement addressing recent health concerns). On the hardware front, watch for updated iMacs and a next-gen Mac Mini, along w/a new MacBook Pro w/a non-removable battery (that promises 50% improved lifespan). There has been some talk about an iPhone Nano or some kind of netbook, although both these seem unlikely this week. Watch for mgmt to show off the co’s new OS, Snow Leopard. A big theme of the event should be the adoption of NVDA across a greater range of AAPL’s computer products (it was always anticipated that AAPL would gradually expand its adoption of NVDA silicon, although expect a lot of noise around the relationship this week).

MacWorld - things to watch.

Showing off Snow Leopard, Apple's new OS? "Apple's Snow Leopard prepares to show off its spots...Apple and its partners have been privately dropping hints to developers that its upcoming release of its Mac OS X operating system, dubbed Snow Leopard, will ship earlier than expected…". The London Guardian. http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2008/dec/18/apple-snow-leopard

An updated MacMini w/NVDA chips? An Apple corporate employee reportedly contacted Wired.com to tell them that Apple will release an upgraded Mac mini, at January’s Macworld Expo in San Francisco which starts 5 January 2009. The Mac mini is Apple’s oldest piece of hardware and was last updated in 07 August 2007. ZDNET. http://blogs.zdnet.com/Apple/?p=2654

New iMacs? A new-generation of NVIDIA-based iMacs are due to begin shipping out of China sometime next month - AppleInsider. http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/12/23/next_gen_imacs_due_in_january_says_paper.html

Updated MacBook Pro w/non-removable battery & NVDA chips? New reports released in the past few days have revealed that Apple will be releasing the new 17" MacBook Pro as early as Macworld. MacRumors. https://www.macrumors.com/2009/01/04/macworld-san-francisco-2009-rumor-roundup/

An iPhone Nano? There is a lot of chatter that Apple may unveil a small "iPhone Nano" device, although many are doubtful. http://www.informationweek.com/blog/main/archives/2008/12/iphone_nano_the.html

A new low-cost netbook device? There was some speculation around this back in Oct/Nov (inc. in PC World), although the chatter has died down of late. Apple's Steve Jobs on the co's last earnings call (back in Oct) dismissed the category, signaling that the company wouldn’t be entering soon. http://www.macworld.com/article/137217/2008/12/netbook.html
