I am using Final Cut Express 4 and Imovie to capture long and old VHS video. I can edit clips I create but I can't eliminate unwanted parts of the captured file. Any suggestions for a not too expensive program that will allow me to delete sections of the original captured file before I use the FCE4?

Both FE4 and iMovie create clips that are indexed to the original captured video file. My understanding is that neither has the ability to perform rough edits and cut unwanted footage from the original file captured on the hard drive. My desire is to capture this old video footage from VHS and preserve it from further degradation. I wish to cut out the low quality footage to save space on the hard drive. I would then use FCE4 for do a fine edit and convert to DVD. Perhaps Quicktime pro will work.I will try it.
