Ability to set vibration length?

Is there a way to set the length of the vibration that occurs when the phone rings or when the phone receives a text message? I find the current length too short, many times I won't notice it. I know this has an effect on battery life but still I'd like the option to set this if it exists (well I'd still like it even if it doesn't exist).
