Able to upgrade a replacement?

Hi,
I had issues with my iMac and its being replaced by a 27 iMac with the C2D, however I really want the i5/4850 and will be willing to pay the difference. The replacement has not shipped yet, but I don't know if Apple can cancel the replacement and let me upgrade it. Does anyone know if this is possible to do?
