Hi.

What do you think about Apple USB Thumb Drive?

Does it worth or not?

Is there any difference with Mac App Store one?

I don't think it's worth it. You can download 10.7.1 from the App Store and very easily put it onto a USB flash drive (you can get an 8GB flash drive for less than $10 shipped from Amazon).

The total cost, including the flash drive, is around $40. You can also burn the DMG to a DVD if you want. And of course, you can always install it and/or redownload it from the App Store in the future.

How can I download 10.7.1. to create a Thumb Drive if I already have Lion?

Wasn't there a way to get one free?

If you can prove you can't download it for some reason, you can take it to an Apple store and they will give you a thumb drive. Or at least they did, but now the thumb drives are available to buy, so they might not.

I think downloading for MBA/Mini 2011 owners is not possible as their hardware has built in internet based recovery.

If they go to the app store and try and get...they will be charged.

Apple released a program to create a USB recovery drive. Perhaps this what 2011 owners should use:

In MAS -> Purchased option/alt click the button to re-download the installer.

Googling or searching the forum should turn up one of the thousands of tutorials on this.
