Please excuse me if these questions are dumb, but I need help and have never updated an OS on my mac before. I'm in the middle of moving across country so I'm on the road, I have my C2D MBP and a 750g External. Ok so i need to back up my stuff using SuperDuper. I already have 200g filled on my external, so if i use superduper it may erase this? so then i need to partition the drive right? but if i make a partition for the superduper backup it may erase the stuff already on my external, right? since I'm traveling and have limited resources I'm hoping someone can give me some advice. thanks!

No, you don't have to have SuperDuper erase the drive. Set it to copy to a disk image and save the disk image anywhere on the 750GB drive. It'll then be a file that you double click to mount just like any other disk image you've ever downloaded.

cool, thanks! once i get moved and set up with all my gear ill be able to move stuff all around and set it up and partition it right.
