I have iTouch 2nd gen and 3rd gen using 3.0+ software... not 3.1.2 or later. If I download firmwares of 4.01 for iTouch can I used them on my existing 2nd gen and 3rd gen and jailbreak them[according to insanely mac forums]? I thought you could but not sure.Thanks

Technically yes, but you won't be able to restore to iOS 4.0.1 on either device since Apple stopped signing it already.
