Depends on your needs.

I'd say Sierra. Very little (if any) performance deficit between that and Yosemite/El Cap. Plus latest OS means latest updates & security features. Your machine is still very capable, especially with the SSD and RAM upgrade that you've already fitted.

Also depends on what programs you are running.
I upgraded to El Capitan and then to Sierra. Had too many issues with some of the programs I needed.

I am now back on Yosemite.
