About the iphone 5s camera UI

The camera shoots in 4:3, and the iPhone 5 screen is 16:9, therefore it can fit in the UI side by side with the 'view finder.'

The more square screens of the iPhone 4s and iPad require the UI to be transparent to allow you to correctly frame a shot.
