Just realised something. The iPhone 17 will come with the A19 chip and run iOS 26? Seriously? Apple really needs to rethink their naming strategy. It would make so much more sense if iPhone 26 had the A26 chip and ran iOS 26.

Would you agree?

The naming convention for A series chips are fine because Apple sometimes use the previous chipset in a current phone. Also, because iPhones are supported for 6-7 years so you’ll end up with an iPhone 17 with an A19 chip which will eventually be running iOS 31.

That is certainly one way to look at it. But it wouldn’t hurt if they named it all 26. I mean then I would end up with an iPhone 26 with an A26 chip running iOS 31. That would mean I have iPhone model from 2026 which has chip from 2026 and is running OS from 2031. :)
