I am considering to buy a airport extreme to replace my linksys e2000.
However, the current generation AE has been released for more than one year.
Does anyone know when will the new generation AE release?

No. The current generation Extreme uses the latest wireless standard, AC, and won't see an update for a while.

Don't spread FUD if you have no idea what you're talking about.

There have been several generations of new 802.11ac chipsets that have been released since Apple released the 802.11ac AirPort Extreme that would warrant an upgrade.

Many thanks! Do you mean Apple will release the AE with newer 802.11ac chipset recently?

I don't know what "FUD" is. I am aware of the improvements to the 802.11 AC standard updates since 2013. That being said the current Extreme exceeds the AC specification and historically, Apple had only updated AirPort when significant improvement could be made.

I'd personally find that unlikely. Maybe if they found a cheaper or other means better way of manufacturing. Regardless performance would be mostly unaffected.

Just get the current AirPort Extreme, it's a great router.

I agree... I don't see anything new out there that would justify Apple pushing out a new model.

Historically I only see them pushing them out for substantial changes or improvements.

MU-MIMO, an upgrade to 8 antennas, putting in the latest 802.11ac chipsets from Qualcomm. Apple has updated AirPort Extremes in the past for much less than that.

I guess we will just have to wait and see. In my opinion, backed by historical evidence and Weaselboy, I do not think they will update the Extreme.
