So I know I haven't been the biggest supporter of the New MacBook Pros, but today something changed my mind. I've watched many reviews and the performance increase looks like it's worth the upgrade. I sold my 2015 for 1000 bucks and now I don't know which model to buy.

Right now I'm a graphic design student. I currently own an iPad Pro 10.5, and I typically use my laptop with an 2k external monitor. I really want 512GB and 16GB of Ram. Should I spec out the 13 inch model or live with the 256GB on the base 15 inch? My budget is under 2400.

If you’re a graphic design student then get the 15”. The graphics card in the 13” won’t be nearly as nice when running Adobe CC as the 4gb Radeon in the base 15”. Also, running illustrator / photoshop on the 13” isn’t a lot of fun, you’d want an external screen for sure.

How difficult is it to live with 256gb of memory?

Well I suppose it’s up to what’s more important to you. With an external monitor, the screen size of the laptop probably isn’t as important so the 13” would do fine, but also a 256GB SSD wouldn’t be that bad I’d assume cause if you’re spending most of your time docked to an external monitor, you can easily hook up an external drive to give you more storage space.

The only big thing possibly swinging in favour of the 15” is the dGPU, which may be useful for you as a graphic design student.

Well which size are you most used to? Was your 2015 model a 13 inch or 15? I'd go for the 15 inch model, obviously more screen real estate is a PLUS for anyone doing design work, or editing video and photography. Also, as mentioned above, better graphics

I'm thinking about upgrading the storage of the base 15 inch. I'll save 170 over the second configuration. There isn't too big of a difference between the processors and graphics. I currently have 512gb so the thought of downgrading my storage makes me nervous.

The first with 512GB added is what I'm looking at.
