So i plan on installing a new ssd into my old mbp and was wondering which software is recommended to clone the drive. I normally wouldnt do this but my itunes library is quite large and figure this way would be faster than doing a clean install and then having to re-import the library

they are tied to the computer, it comes standardized on Mac OSX lion but older versions (SL, Leopard) aren't. if you install a new drive on your computer as long as you install Lion your good

lol thanks for the reply, i edited it again so it looks like ure answer doesnt match but it did.:)

If i do decide to do a clean install, because my itunes media is on my nas, can i just reinstall itunes and then point the library to the nas?

All you have to do is replace the itunes folder in USER>Music on the new install. The itunes folder has all the necessary data in it.

If you're looking to clone the drive, then I recommend Carbon Copy Cloner.
