I collected my iphone 4s from the apple store today, could anyone give me any tips and advice in relation to charging the phone for the first time and any phone settings I should activate/deactivate.

thanx :)

Bluetooth always off only because I don't use it.
Raise to speak in Siri settings off.
Auto brightness on.
Auto lock to lowest setting.
Location services turned off for things like Twitter, Facebook and camera.
Use cellular turned off in Docs and Data iCloud setting.

All just some basic settings to "help" with battery life. As far as battery the phone should have a decent charged battery out of the box though.

I would open it up and go through settings and go throughout the various folders. Turn off anything you do not need. Congrats and enjoy

Today's batteries don't require any sort of "maintenance" so just plug it in when you need to or overnight. The 4S battery has been excellent for me so you may not need to turn off anything. I haven't and my battery lasts all day.

Congrats! Turn off location services for things that don't really need it. Make sure to get iOS 5.0.1 if you don't have it already.

I noticed that after about 4 days of use (and nightly charging to 100%) my battery life improved dramatically. After a week I calibrated the battery by letting it run all the way down, then charging to 100%.

I'm such an idiot, I forgot that the iphone only uses micro sim cards. I'm gonna have to get one tomorrow.
