About to receive my iphone

Just recently purchased a second hang iphone, and I look forward to it's arrival. My question relies to activation.

I want to know if their is a way that I can use the phone without activating it and setting up a new 2 year contract? I am currently an ATT customer, and we are able to get new phones in december becuase our contracts renews in january.

Would I be able to just add the data plan without the re-newal of my contract? So then in december I can look to get a new phone at a discounted price? Would this require some sort of jailbrake?

dont have to jailbreak, just have to activate

but i guess if you're going to activate it, might as well do the whole lot (activate/jailbreak/unlock)

yes you do!

what i meant was hactivate it. like activate using a hacking method, zibri/iplus/pwnage etc
