Ok , my new ext HD is here. Question, i'm backing up my laptop. This HD will not be connected all the time. Hell, I don't need it to back up my stuff every hr.

Is it ok if I just connect this HD once a month or ever couple weeks for a backup, is there some type of setting?

Yea, you don't need it connected all the time. I plug mine in when I feel like backing up and it does it automatically within the hour, but otherwise it's not connected. Time machine doesn't make annoying popups like some other os.

Cool, just wanted to make sure before I start this process. I just wanted to make sure it didnt have issues with not being connected for long periods of time.

Actually, if you don't back up for a long time (I think it's something like a month or so, or potentially even less - I don't honestly remember) Time Machine does pop up saying backups haven't occurred for a while.

But once you plug the drive back in everything's back to normal.

Good to know. Also, my ext HD is 250GB , the internal is 200GB. That should be fine right?
