i have noticed this when in outside jogging that the accelerometer on my first gen touch doesnt kick in when outside easily. however once i move into a warmer climate it does like expected

anyone else experience this?

That's weird. It's been in the 30-40's here, and mine has been working okay. I'll have to check it out next time I go outside.

I shoved mine outside for a while (i.e. since my last post) and mine is working. It's 34 here. Maybe it'd have to be out for longer, though?

i'll try it at the bus stop tomorrow morning. Only supposed to be around 25. I'll make another post if the accelerometer wont work.

ive noticed it while being outside for a while (enough to get the device cold?) and then trying to use it. however, less than a min about being inside again, it works

i seriously thought it was broken as it was aggravating with it not switiching. i was even jerking to the positions thinking it was just stuck or what not but to no avail

Hmm... well, it's supposed to be in the 20-30's tomorrow morning, so I'll give an update on mine then. Until then, stay warm. :p

I wonder if it has to do with a combination of temp and humidity. It's really dry in Colorado.

By the way, it was in the 80's in the Springs today. Doesn't much feel like fall.

haha thanks and i appreciate you trying it out:). you too baseball-kid8

No problem. :)

no kidding, it really hasnt been cold yet here. in fact it has been consistantly nice out. very odd this year

Could be that combo. The humidity here has been in the 50-60 percent range. Don't have any other "data" to compare it to though.

It's 19F outside right now and I just put the iPhone into my window.

Will update in 10 minutes. :D

20 Minutes in 19F weather - and my accelerometer works just fine. Then again, I have an iPhone.

where is the app located ive checked itunes?cant find it
ron in denver

we are talking about how the phone switches to say coverflow and non coverflow when listening to music depending on how you hold it. from what ive experienced in cold, it will be stuck in one way when i switch it. aka will be in coverflow mode when im holding it upright

soooo how does the accelermeter work? a lil ball in the thing? which is why it freezes? well im not sure, cant help you guys here lol its only 80 to 90 over here

If the accelerometer in the iPhone / Touch is anything like the accelerometer from my old PS3 controller - it's a bunch of super tiny metal bars and wires (and I "think" a magnetic base) - they look like they are designed to "flex" under forces in a certain axis. (causing a voltage to go across one of the little coils adjacent to the bar)

In short - no, it does not look like it would be affected by temperatures that humans can exist in. In EXTREME temps (greater than -20F) I'd sway that thought.
