Accelerometer very un-respomsive

Hello, my 6 month old iPhone 4 hit a bit of a hitch today, the accelerometer has suddenly become extremely unresponsive. I have to literally shake it very hard for it to turn orientation. I have tried all the options (turn on and off, hard reset, restored software through iTunes) yet no avail. Would this be eligible under my iPhones warranty if take it into an Apple store, it just appears to be so out of the blue on an otherwise well kept phone! :/
