New switcher here having great difficulty.
Can anyone help me with a database design in filemaker??

It is an anaesthetic logbook to track activity. I am trying to keep it efficient by storing most of the fields as look ups in other tables. For example I have a table with various surgical specialties listed with an ID number for each. My logbook table stores only the ID of the specialty and performs a lookup to display the word and not the number. I have this bit working well.

My problem is that if I perform a search then it falls over. Searching for "Vascular" produces an error that the data type is not numerical. Searching for the ID number or using the lookup table to provide the number just finds nothing. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get further help on this?

I am bald enough already and can't afford to tear any more hair out!

I would be grateful if anyone out there knows a developer who could give advice or if anyone wanted to look at the file then I would be more than willing to send it.
