Accessing ext drive attached to remote mac

I have an iMac and a MacMini on my home network. I use screen sharing on the iMac to access and open files on the Mini. The Mini had an external drive but I can't access or see it on the iMac. This became a problem only after upgrading to Mavericks. Help?
