My daughter has a iMac, and my wife and I use Airs [all new converts :)], and I store music and movies on her HDD. I I have the 'wake for network' ticked in Energy Saver Preferences, I can access her iMac but the screen comes on.

Is there anyway to access her iMac but NOT have the screen come on. I think she will not welcome being woken up every other night by a bright light in her room.

So have her turn the screen brightness all the way down before she goes to bed.

That will not work, as iMacs don't turn off the display like your MBP does.

OP, you could employ an external HDD to your router and copy the music on there to have network access to it, if your router can use external HDDs connected via USB.
Or you buy an external HDD for your MBA, if you care that much about not waking here.
