Accessing old HDD thunderbird mail via ext usb HDD

My motherboard seems to have given up the ghost & i need to access some emails in thunderbird stored in the draft folder.

I was planning on putting the HDD in an enclosure and asking my friend to plug in via ext usb line to his mac. How will he be able to open thunderbird mail and access the draft folder ?
