Accidental delete of my downloads folder

Hello all,
So I'm kind of new to my Macbook Pro. I was working on a Keynote presentation, dragging a photo in from my downloads pop-up column and I accidentally dragged my downloads folder off the dock and it did its little vanish thing. I went into my finder and dragged the downloads folder back onto the dock. However, I cannot get it to work as it did before.

1) I cannot get it to sort the items in the correct order of the newest downloaded. When I click "sort by: date" it brings up stuff I downloaded a few months ago (but not the oldest stuff... weird). How can I get It to sort it by the newest download again?

2) When I'm in safari, I'll do the same process as before, right click, "save as to downloads" and then it won't show up as the newest thing downloaded in the stack on the dock. Nor will it show up in the folder when I open it through the finder. How can I get it back into the stack?

Instead of choosing Sort by Date, Sort by Date Added. That will result in the old behavior.

That's what I meant by "date"... its still not working right
