Hi everyone!

I got my MBP 15 2018 (Intel i7) back from the top case replacement and found out the TouchID doesn't work.

I proceed to execute xartutil --erase-all command in recovery mode hoping to resolve it. Now I can't log in with my 100% correct password. I can't mount the internal SSD. I understand that the stupid command have deleted the decryption key of the SSD and making it unreadable.

Please let me know how I can get my laptop to work again. I have backed up the laptop, so I can erase the ssd and whatever. Would like to avoid going back to Apple cuz they might charge me to replace parts. Please any help or instructions would be appreciated!

I don't think there is anything you can do. You will have to call Apple and see what it will take to replace the drive. I suppose that you could just say that it stopped working without telling them what you did. Maybe they will think something they did in the repair caused an issue. I am sorry to give you such bad news, but so far I haven't turned up a solution.

In the post OP eventually took it back to Apple to fix the screen, but OP also said "formatted and reinstall” by themselves. There is another reddit post saying they DIY the format and it worked ( ).

Any idea on how to do this? Is it done through “Erase” the unmountable internal SSD in the Disk Utility via Recovery Mode? At this point I am hesitant to try to do anything myself before getting expert approvals here no the forum. Will also try to go to a store and see if they can fix it for free.
 
Well, I wondered if a format would work. You have nothing to lose, so you might give it a shot.

Erase and reinstall macOS​

You can restore your Mac to factory settings by erasing your Mac, then using macOS Recovery, the built-in recovery system on your Mac, to reinstall macOS.
Important: Erasing the volume removes all the information from it. Before you start, back up your essential files and information to another storage device.
Your computer must be connected to the internet. If you’re reinstalling on a Mac notebook computer, plug in the power adapter.
  1. Start up your computer in macOS Recovery:
    • On a Mac with Apple silicon: Choose Apple menu

      > Shut Down, press and hold the power button until you see “Loading startup options,” select Options, click Continue, then follow the onscreen instructions.
    • On an Intel-based Mac: Choose Apple menu

      > Restart, then immediately press and hold Command-R.
  2. In the Recovery app window, select Disk Utility, then click Continue.
  3. In Disk Utility, select the volume you want to erase in the sidebar, then click Erase in the toolbar.
  4. Type a name for the volume in the Name field, click the Format pop-up menu and choose APFS, then click Erase Volume Group.
  5. When the erase process is complete, click Done, then choose Disk Utility > Quit Disk Utility.
  6. In the Recovery app window, select “Reinstall macOS Big Sur,” click Continue, then follow the onscreen instructions.

and connect the mac in DFU to 2nd mac running Apple Configurator 2 and try the revive or restore option. (Try revive first)

Boot with Cmd+R, delete the internal SSD and then (very important) without rebooting reinstall macOS.
