im a newbie to mac osx, but is there a system restore point like on windows? i accidentally deleted my budget, some essays, resume and a lot of other important word/excel documents. I also empited it from the trash can is there anything i can do to recover these?

Maybe, but it's important that you stop using your computer right away. If not, you risk further overwriting of the files. I think your best bet is to call a data-recovery service and see how much it costs. Unless you have a recent backup of course.

Sounds like you'll be wanting to upgrade to Leopard when it comes out. ;)

Also, FWIW, windows system restore does not get your personal files back.

System Restore works a lot like the Undo command in Microsoft Word. You can use System Restore to remove any system changes that were made since the last time you remember your computer working correctly. System Restore does not affect your personal data files (such as Microsoft Word documents, browsing history, drawings, favorites, or e-mail) so you won't lose changes made to these files.

holy crap theres no 1free trial? man 99$ but i guess ill have to do it...

Maybe waiting for Leopard would help although that might have two problems. 1) It depends on when it comes out and if you can wait that long for your files. 2) It might be possible that Leopard only backs up files from the date of installation of Leopard and not files that were deleted in prior operating systems.

This won't help a bit. The OP will have long ago overwritten the files by that point, and I imagine the bit about pre-Leopard stuff is also true. The only option at this point is a professional data recovery application or service.

well finally someone who needs time machine! Its gonna be so cool! But wont it take up loadsa HD space?
