Hi Guys,

First time poster here so sorry i've broken any rules.

I have written a whole essay for uni and spent the whole day yesterday researching and writing the first 1000 words. I accidentally wrote over the first 1000 words with one word, essentially deleting them out the document without knowing then saved the document not realising what I had done.

I had saved the document as it was originally previously so moronically managed to save over it again. Is there any way I can recover the document before I saved it as it was the first time or recover the lost words?.

I don't have time machine activated on my computer and I have tried /private/var/folders search and come up fruitless.

Anything advice you can offer would be really helpful! Thanks

Unless you have a Time Machine backup of the earlier version, I'm afraid you're out of luck.

If "track changes" is turned on, you might be able to see those changes.

If was off. Looks like i'll have to start again.

Thanks for your help.

Is there definitely no other way to access the old file or recover the words other than track changes or time machine?

No, there is no other way.

If Word was never closed, what about the UNDO button/command?

Undo won't work after the file was saved.

Beg to differ. Word 2011, opened a document I don't really have a use for, highlighted some text, typed a word to replace that text then saved and was then able to click Undo and get the text back. If Word had been closed after the mistake, all bets are off but it certainly is possible it would have worked.
