Hi everyone.

I've got a bit of an issue with my Mac. Sorry for the long post in advance, but I'm going to try and give you all the info you might need.

Firstly, my Macbook has two drives, an SSD with the OS and my apps etc. Then I have my old HDD in an optibay for all my music, films, photos and documents (including things I need for work). I have BOTH backed up to a time machine.

Recently my hard drive seemed strange, my songs were skipping iTunes for example. I used Disk Utility to verify my hard drive and to then repair it but I received and error message that told me to user a boot disk and reformat it (I think that's what it said, it was many angry hours ago).

I booted the Mountain Lion disk and reformatted my drive and renamed it Macintosh HD, exactly as it was. I then tried to restore from Disk utility itself but I could click "open" on the folder that I wanted - the most recent back up. So failing that, I chose the actual time machine option that seemed to work but then failed half way through.

I booted anyway to find that I couldn't log into my account. I received the error message a long the lines of you are unable to log in to the user account at this time. I have a recently created second account that I use in my new job which I could sign into which had all its files in place and everything working fine. I'm assuming that all that was stored on my SSD.

This account is only a user account and therefore has no admin rights.

I 'entered time machine' but couldn't click 'Restore'. I copied and pasted the files from there and into finder and could user my admin account username and password to authorize it but it kept failing half way through copying the users folder.

At one point I managed to log into my admin account with a lot of things reset, i.e. the dock, so I'm wondering the user account settings were on my HD?

The only option now in Time Machine after booting from the ML disk is to restore my SDD to my HD.

I'm completely at a loss. I'm aware I've done things wrong before this and maybe have made it worse a long the line.

What are my options. I feel if I could get into my admin account then I could restore from TM and it'd all be fine. I don't think it's a password error.

Thanks in advance.
