ACD Shutting Off When Magsafe is Unplugged?

I recently got a 2012 MBA and plugged it into my 27" LED Cinema Display. I noticed today that when the magsafe connector is disconnected from the computer, the display shuts down and will not turn back on until the magsafe is reconnected. I never noticed this behavior with my 2010 Macbook Pro, so I'm curious if this is normal...

Can anyone provide any input on this? If it matters, I have to use the Magsafe/Magsafe 2 adapter with my new MBA.
