ACME bags

Anyone tried to ACME laptop bags for 15" PB?

Personally I really really like the outlook of the bag, but my concern are:

1. It's durability
2. Room. The bag seems quite slim cut, do you think it provides enough room for fitting my PB with zeroshock sleeve, plus some accessories (i.e. like mouse, power adapter)
3. Price. The bag that I'm looking is selling at $169US. It seems a bit too expensive, isn't it?

Yeah, that's pretty expensive. I wanted an Acme bag too for my 15" powerbook, but didn't want to pay that much, so I ended getting something okay off ebags. I have been very disappointed with the selection of computer bags suitable for laptops bigger than the 12" screen. Everything is either black and very dull (like Brenthaven - not to mention so expensive!), or way too futuristic looking/ugly (like crumpler). I wanted something in between - attractive, colorful, but not totally out there. Is that so hard? Acme's bags were the closest I saw, but I didn't want to spend almost $200...

Seems like the makers of laptop bags haven't yet figured out that not all people who schlep around laptops are built like football players or want to look like mountain-climbers.

I just got back from London, UK and searched in vain for a nicer bag for my laptop and finally settled on an Offermann backpack that I found at the airport in Amsterdam. It's a backpack, but it does have nice protection for my laptop and is more compact than most and is easy to carry.

I think there is a real market for stylish bags. No reason why we need to carry clunky black monstrosities around.

I too wanted an Acme bag for my 15" PB, but I can't justify spending half the price of an iPod on a bag that only holds my laptop.

I settled on a Marware Sportfolio sleeve and a YakPak bag. The sleeve is surprisingly rugged (plastic shell + neoprene).

I almost got a Timbuk2 bag, but their bags are a little too sporty for me.

Wow! Those Yak Pak's are really nice. I might just have to get one now. How is the strap? Is it uncomfortable? Do you have extra room for other stuff? I have a 15" powerbook... Thanks for the link!

Have you seen the Merrell bags? I think the back, shoulder packs and the sleeves all hold laptops and have a music pocket/port for the iPod (pictured) or other devices. Of course they are not cheap but look nice.

I have a red acme bag for my 12" powerbook. Yeah it was pretty expensive but it's an awesome bag. I bought it after buying a Crumpler Wee Bee. THe problem I was having with the Wee Bee is merely that it is a messenger bag and tended to crash against my body too much for comfort. The problem with the acme is that you can only fit the laptop and not even the powercord.

I'm pretty happy with the bag. I was actually thinking of posting a review + pictures, because I like when people post reviews.

Maclomaniac, it's funny you should mention the strap, because that's what I dislike the most. The strap looks and feels like a seatbelt, but it's not as thick as a seatbelt. It does the job, but it was hard for me to move away from my Manhattan Portage bag, which had a VERY rugged strap.

(Sidenote: I would recommend Manhattan Portage, but I didn't find any nice / not too big ones that would have worked with the 15" Powerbook.)

The Marware sleeve fits in my YakPak JUST BARELY. If you've seen the Marware Sportfolio, you know that it has rubber on the sides / bottom. So, when I try to put it in my YakPak bag, it sometimes takes a few extra seconds because the rubber sides "grab" the bag.

Since the Marware sleeve is thick, I'm not left with a lot of room in the bag. I would get a thinner sleeve, but I like that the Marware has handles and plastic in addition to neoprene.

Here's the most I can fit:

* 15" Powerbook in Marware sleeve

* AC Adapter

* Travel Mouse + Case

* ~300 page paperback book

* Wallet (I have a gigantic checkbook wallet)

* Mini-wallet

* Keys / trinkets (USB drive, etc.)

* Spiral Notebook

* 1" for binder / stack of papers / portfolio

I have an acme bag for my 12'' PB and love it. Its slim and attractive. And Acme has the amazing customer service. They have a 1 year return policy, no questions asked. If your on a tight budget, they are not the best. But if you want a very nice bag, it is money well spent.

PS. you just spent how on a computer.....you can prob afford their bags.... you prob just dont want to.
