Is there an effects pad or something of the like that will take an acoustic-electric guitar's sound and turn it into a electic guitar's sound? I remember seeing someone do that with an electric-acoustic guitar somewhere...

If its just a plain acoustic guitar you have (not an electro-acoustic) then your best bet is to get a shadow pickup. I have a Seymour Duncan pickup (not sure what model as it doesn't actually say) that fits into my Fender DG-4's sound hole which can then be connected to any effects pedal or amp. I ran mine through my pedal and into my amp and used it as an electric while I was waiting for strings to arrive and it worked pretty well.
