Do you have the latest version? Is your internet connected? Do you have any routers or firewalls that could be interfering?
If all else fails, search for acquision in the find feature and delete the .plist preferences file. This may remedy your issues if you have changed the settings.

Yes there is....sorta. Acquisition contacts out, which is why Acqlite exists....it lacks this privacy issue, and it's free.
