So, if we choose to assign another action to this, such as camera, how are we then supposed to change to silent?

I changed Action Button to camera and any press, even a long press, just goes to camera, no way to silence.

I’ve watched a YouTube video and have created a shortcut that brings a menu up when I click the action button. I’ve made the menu options all the things I want easy access to. Camera, focus mode, controlling the Apple TV, etc etc.

And yeah I know it’s mostly in control centre but I like it my way 😜

There are at least 2 different ways. In control center, there's a silent mode button (it is a bell shape). Tap it, phone goes silent. Tap it again, you are back in business.

There is a similar setting in: settings/sounds & haptics. A silent mode toggle button at the top. (the button in control center also changes this toggle).

I have a shortcut that detects my Focus mode and changes the action button accordingly (eg Fitness = Start a timer for rest between sets, Photography = Open Camera, etc.)

And while I never turn off Silent mode, the Control Center is the easiest way to set it if you don’t want to incorporate it into a Shoetcut.

Can you link the video please😀

I'm sure many people like the ability to program an action button. I find that it gets turned on when my phone is in my pocket. For this reason, I've assigned no action to it. I miss the slide button for ring/vibrate.

Why am I not able to find “Set silent mode” script on my iPhone for the phone? Instead all I see is the script but for th Apple Watch.

Interesting... Case or no case?

Not had an accidental press once myself. LOVE having my Action Button programed to Silent in Portrait, Video in Landscape left orientation and Photo on Landscape right.

Minor inconvenience to mute the phone while watching content or phone is in landscape... but being able to go straight to taking a video/photo or mute the phone all with one press is way more useful.

not sure how well posted this one is around here so...
fwiw...
download this app: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1586435171

edit... welp @mikegoldnj didn't even read the OP... here you go^^^^ hold the phone landscape with action button on bottom and you will take a video, hold it landscape with action on top and you will take a photo. press it in any other orientation and it will silence your phone. yw

Have the finewoven case. Will see if it occurs when my Otterbox gets here.

I wouldn't mind setting the button to launching camera or flashlight but I can already access that from the lock screen or swiping down and tapping the buttons.

Can apple let us change what we can launch from the lock screen?

I've kept the action button on silent/ring. I don't see the point in setting it to anything else. Maybe shortcuts but I haven't came up with a shortcut I want to use at the press of a button.

honestly the only good thing about this action button is that it's an actual button and not a switch. how exciting.

The action button can make it slightly easier/quicker to launch the camera when you’re using another app on the phone since it’s a button press rather than a swipe and a tap, but I‘ve left it as silent button for now. That might change when I go on vacation.

From control panel by sliding down top right corner and selecting silent mode on the panel.

True. I just don't need that quick access to my camera right now. Yeah maybe if I was travelling.

It would annoy me having a button dedicated to camera AND a button on the lock screen for camera at the same time. If I could change the camera button on the lockscreen to something else then I'd change the action button to camera.
