Hey all,

I'll buy my first ipad in the coming days in the US while on vacation. I'd like to know if I'll have to activate the ipad with my iMac in order to start using it, or if I'll be able to use it right after opening up the box.

Since my iMac is at my apartment in France, I won't have a chance to plug the iPad to my Mac for a couple of weeks, and it'd be nice if I could check the screen after buying it to return it in case it'd be faulty.

Also, can you confirm that I'll be able to return the ipad in France if there is a problem within the one-year guarantee ?

Thanks

Apple will set it up for you in the store when you buy it. The warranty is universal, they will honor it anywhere.

You can set up any current iOS device without a computer. It will ask you for your Apple ID, if you want to use iCloud, etc. It's very simple.

I don't know how AppleCare+ works in France, but if you are getting an iPad 3, you might consider getting it for additional peace of mind.
