Activate AppleCare+ in a country in which the Watch is not yet on sale

I just bought my Apple Watch on Apple Store France. I also ordered AppleCare+.

I live in Portugal, a country where the Apple Watch is not yet on sale. Will I be able to activate AppleCare+ in my country if I have any problem? I see AppleCare+ is international, but I am afraid that I am just throwing money away.
