I'm in Canada and have an AT&T sim card with an Iphone 4.

I bought a Canadian telus micro sim card for the iphone. Since the iphone is locked to AT&T itunes says the sim card is not for the appropriate carrier.

Until the unlock is released is there a way I could at least activate the phone to use it as an ipod?

Try removing the SIM card. I can use mine as an ipod as long as the SIM is taken out.
