Activate iPhone with old sim?

I just got the Verizon iPhone, and ported my AT&T number over to Verizon. I restored my AT&T iPhone because I am going to sell it. Can I activate the AT&T phone with my old AT&T sim, or will it start up my service with AT&T again? I'm assuming it won't, but I want to be sure before I do it.
