I'm on holidays in the US and bought an iPod Touch 4G duty-free (ie. without tax) but I've only got my brother's Macbook (10.4.11) with me and would really like to just activate it so that I can use some apps. I don't really mind if I can't put music or videos onto it at the moment or even before I get back but I do want to just be able to use it.

Is there any manual way to do this without iTunes. I have the required iTunes version but I need 10.5.8, so that might be a piece of useful information.

Thanks in advance for your help.

This is why it's ridiculous to HAVE to plug it into iTunes for you to be able to use it. I'm not sure if you could snag one of the jailbreaking apps and "activate" it that way, but that could work.
